3×16 “1912″

We begin 100 years ago in the yellow toned 1912 (what did 1969 look like? Tye-dye?) as 2 council members discussed the death of a founding family member (PARALLELS!). Zacharia Salvatore decided it was as safe as any other night in Mystic Falls (truth) and continued on his way…

RIP Uncle Zach #1!

1912 quickly fades into 2012 (or is it still 2011? IDK ANYMORE)

Mayor Lockwood was not happy Sheriff Forbes wouldn’t reveal the suspect in custody for the council members murders out in public.

Unfortunately not. Alaric was the suspect in custody!

Alaric held firm that he was NOT the serial killer but Liz had to detain him. There was simply too much evidence against him. Damon was also randomly there? Backing up his BFF I guess. I like how only human murderers get arrested and no1curr about Damon, who’s killed hundreds of peeps by now.

A few miles, feet, centimeters? away, Elena and Matt were getting in their morning jog. I like how it had only been 2 days since the fancy ball and Matt’s hand seemed to have magically healed.

Matt confessed to Elena that he had spoken to Bonnie and that Abby was going to complete the transition into a vampire. Elena was upset that Bonnie didn’t call her instead. She did, however, receive another phone call informing her of Alaric’s imprisonment.

Elena quickly ran over to the police station to go see Alaric and bumped into Damon on the way in

Elena was not happy that Damon had decided to stay out of things for once.

Elena also tried to get Damon to care a little bit about what Bonnie was going through with Abby becoming a vampire and all. Damon didn’t really care and I didn’t really blame him.

Back at the dimly lit Salvatore mansion, Stefan was self loathing (writing in his journals) again. Damon interrupted his alone time though with one of the best (if not THE best) Damon line of the season.

Damon was trying to take some bro-tips from Klaus and Elijah and spend some bro-time with Stefan and reminisce about the yellow times.

We were taken back to 1912 to the funeral of Uncle/Nephew Zach #1. Stefan took a few seconds to talk with the town gossips about the murders and the TVD writers used a plot device to name drop.

Another season 1 throw back!

It had been 50 years, but apparently Damon was still pissed at Stefan for making him transition into a vampire. Stefan pointed out that he had been sober for a while after he attended Lexi-hab but Damon still harbored resentment.

Back in present, colorful time, Stefan agreed to get bro-wasted with Damon and help try to clear Alaric of the council member murders.

Getting back to what has seem to become the new “big bad” of season 3, Rebekah questioned Mayor Lockwood on the location of the new white oak

Carol was no help. She directed Rebekah towards a plot device Damon and Stefan.

Stamon was over at the bar, day drinking and discussing some murders. Stefan began fiending for blood and Damon was catching on quickly.

Back at jailhouse rock, Liz was getting super srs about the murders. She questioned Alaric on the evidence Meredith had handed over that implicated him.

At the Grill, Rebekah joined Damon and Stefan and began asking 348 questions about their family history.

It was revealed that Stamon’s father had been diddling the maids of the Salvatore mansion and ended up impregnating one of them, thus allowing the Salvatore name/bloodline to continue. I hope we get to meet more human Salvatores one day…

We were then escorted back to 1912 for the introduction of vampire Sage, a female boxer, and Damon’s Lexi

And nothing was really established in this scene other than Sage had red hair, boxed a ton, and she maybe liked Damon and he maybe was interested too.

Over in the Mystic Falls Hospital parking lot, Elena was stalking down Meredith

Elena tried to get Meredith to understand that Alaric was not the killer but Meredith kind of pwned Elena and asked her how much she actually knew about her guardian/teacher/future love interest. It turned out, not a lot. Meredith also told Elena that nothing she said mattered because she dates vampires. I don’t hate Meredith as much anymore.

Back at the Grill Stamon ousted Rebekah from their brotastic time out.

Elena and Matt then came up with the best idea in the whole entire world that would not backfire on them whatsoever: break into Meredith’s apartment and look for incriminating evidence against her! (They were still convinced she was the killer)

Apparently the #1 rule as a founding family member is to always have a secret closet full “skeletons.” I wonder how an episode of House Hunters would play out for a founding family…Must have: eat-in kitchen, 3 bedrooms, and secret closet for crossbows, stakes, diaries, and death wishes.

Elena and Matt came across a box in Meredith’s secret closet full of folders from the council member murders…DUN DUN DUN.

At the Grill, Stamon was trying to connect the 1912 murders to the present day murders

Rebekah decided to barge back into bro-time. Also, TVD now requires that one Original must be in every scene. This is a rule I could get used to. Dabekah read excerpts from Stefan’s Livejournal and flashed back to yellower times.

Sage awkwardly watched Damon feed and kill and instructed him that his “form was all wrong.” He should get pleasure out of it too. All this build up to Sage and her being Damon’s “mentor” and that’s basically all she had to say to get him to start compellin’ and rapin’.

Sage informed Damon to go after the girls who don’t really want to be seduced because deep down they really want it, more so than the prostitutes apparently. (Oy, this show sometimes…)

Rebekah once again made a remark about once knowing Sage, leading to Damon questioning her on their past relationship

Apparently Sage and Finn were once together. This also meant that Sage was over 900 years young.

Also, Damon finally got Stefan to admit he was about to kill the entire Mystic Grill waitstaff, aka Matt.

Back over at casa de Fell, Elena and Matt continued their Scooby gang snooping.

They stumbled across an old Gilbert journal. They didn’t have too much time to keep looking (MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE GRABBED THE BOX AND PEACED OUT IF YOU WERE GOING TO TAMPER WITH EVIDENCE IN THE FIRST PLACE) because Meredith unexpectedly came home. Matt and Elena jumped into the closet.

I’m sorry, I know Stelena fans love Stefan because he lets Elena make her own (dumb) decisions but sometimes Damon isn’t completely wrong in trying to stop her before she sets any plans into fruition…

Elena and Matt were quickly apprehended by Sheriff Forbes.

Since MF jailhouse rock only could afford one prisoner at a time, Liz let Elena and Matt go. Not before Elena could tell her about the tampered with evidence though. Apparently Meredith had a document for the coroner’s office that would clear Alaric of the murders!

Outside of the Grill, Stefan had had enough of bro-time and was about to kill errbody. Damon decided he should. It was better to drink blood in moderation than go cold turkey.

Stefan couldn’t hold back.

Damon also decided Rebekah had bro-blocked enough that night and sent her on her way

(sorry, but I wouldn’t mind a Dabekah endgame)

Oh, and Elena and Matt just happened to pass by to see Stefan covered in blood and the unconscious girl. ZzzZzz. Stefan was mad at Damon again.

Elena and Matt sauntered back to the Saltzbert residence and Matt point blank asked Elena why she liked vampires so much. Elena then came to the realization that she had loved Stefan so much because he couldn’t die (unlike all 3 of her human parents, Aunt Jenna, and probably Matt one day). This scene was mainly to establish that there was still a connection between Matt and Elena (Melena? Elatt? Donobert?)

Matt also confessed he had stolen the Gilbert journal while Meredith and the “idiot” (way to talk about your friend/ex’s mother so nicely) weren’t looking. Elena again didn’t get a chance to open it up and try to read because Alaric had been released and was home!

Alaric and Elena embraced in a totally normal guardian/teacher/dead aunts bf/dead vampire mothers ex-husband hug

I’m also kind of surprised Alaric wasn’t shaking like Stefan was…from his alcohol withdrawals.

Back at Stamon mansion, Damon tried once again to get Stefan to take after Klaus and Elijah

We were taken back to 1912 where Damon had convinced Stefan to relapse. Stefan showed he couldn’t control himself and hilariously whacked the head off of a Lockwood and tried to put it back on (this was apparently the start of his second ripper binge).

Damon admitted that he felt bad for not going after Stefan and stopping him. He was determined to do it this time around because he bro-loved him. It was probably the best scene of the episode, tbh.

At the Saltzbert residence, Elena was finally getting a chance to read up on the journal Matt had stolen for her. Apparently it had belonged to Samantha Gilbert (the girl Damon “killed” in 1912)

At Stamon mansion, Stefan decided to give the bromance thing a try. Stefan had found a confession for the 1912 council members’ murders. It was none other than thought to be dead at the time: Samantha Gilbert!

Back to the Saltzbert residence: Meredith decided to stop by. Alaric was not happy to see the woman who had shot him and then put him in jail.

Elena was deciphering the scribble scrabble of Samantha’s journal when everything began to click (it took them 41 minutes…it took me 2 weeks ago)

One more stroll over to the Salvatore’s and the boys were starting to figure out the murders. If Samantha wasn’t a vampire she must have worn a Gilbert death-saving ring. They connected the rings to the murders

Meredith was also starting to connect the dots. She called Alaric out on him “blacking out.” She tried to get him to see that a ring that cheats death wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. The longer you wore it/more times you cheated death, the more likely you were to kill a member of Mystic Falls’ founding family. This is where the shocking twist came in because we were all suppose to believe that Alaric’s black outs were from his alcoholism!

LOL, don’t you like how Alaric didn’t take the ring off?

And last and least, Elena also figured out Alaric was the murderer!

A flashback in a flashback then revealed that everyone was right: the death cheat ring made you cray cray!

So, there you have it! A boring episode that was just…boring. The “big twist” was not really that big and the flashbacks were lacking (as per usual). Also, why do you only kill council members!? WHATEVER, I can’t wait to see Alaric go batshit cray though!

3×15 “All My Children”

We opened up on Elena contemplating the meaning of life. She lied in bed while she wondered who would accompany her to the zoo that day.

Stefan, however, had gone back to season 1!Stefan and had begun keeping letters to Tiki’s Granddad a journal again. Was I the only one kind of upset we didn’t get the excellent season 1 voice over’s as well?

Elena decided that the very first people who would 100% want to talk to her and accompany her to the zoo would be Stefan and Damon.

Ah, there’s the jerk!Stefan I love. He sent Elena straight to voice mail.

Since Stefan was too busy to care, Elena decided to call Damon next. She didn’t apologize for what she said to him at the fancy ball but she didn’t understand why he wouldn’t pick up her 38,940 missed phone calls. Damon was still a little tied up though.

Since Elena had just gotten dissed and dismissed by both Salvatore’s she decided the best idea would be to personally go over there? Yeah, I don’t get it either. Upon her arrival she discovered some shenanigans.

Elena was weirdly jealous and upset but didn’t spend too much time discussing Damon’s sexcapades because it was time for her to finally admit that she was feeling guilty about her part in the ritual to kill the Mikaelson children (really, she was just upset about Elijah, and rightly so). She was NOT happy when Stamon formed a united front and disagreed with her. Honestly, Damon was still hurt Elijah didn’t want him.

Over at the Mikaelson mansion, Elijah was suspiciously lurking around

Sorry if I have a dirty/TMI mind but I couldn’t help it that this was the first thing I thought of when I saw this scene…

The other siblings weren’t paying attention though and decided to make fun of Rebekah’s walk of shame

Finally! Some recognition that our recently undaggered characters were not caught up on all of today’s lingo. I can’t help but think with Kol’s personality that he invented the word “strumpet” in the first place.

Kol decided to use his (very attractive) puppy dog face to guilt trip Klaus into going to the bar with him. I loved this scene because it showed that Klaus was happy that his family was all attractively undaggered.

Elijah was still suspicious about Esther’s intentions but Rebekah tried to reassure him that she just wanted to read “The Secret” and take her kids to Disneyworld.

Over at Caroline’s the girls were trying to recreate Esther’s privacy spell

It wasn’t working much to Caroline and Bonnie’s dismay.

Back at the dimly lit Salvatore mansion, Stamon had yet another conversation about Elena. This conversation pissed me off because they talked about Elena like she was an object and fought over “who gets her.” Hey, here’s an idea, how about you stop referring to girls like they’re inanimate objects. Ok? Ok! Good.

Back at the Saltzbert residence Elena was about to get a visit from a flawless vampire

Instead of the zoo, Elijah took Elena to the middle of the Mystic Falls woods, alone. I was jealous.

Elijah filled Elena in on what Mystic Falls was like 1,000 years ago. Indian tribes, werewolves, wild horses Klaus’ friends were discussed.

And then Elijah called Elena out for lying to him at the fancy ball, saying he could tell by the rhythm of her heartbeat

Elena quickly came clean about Esther’s true intentions on her plans to kill Elijah and the rest of her children.

The Vampire Diaries and Daniel Gillies then trolled the The CW’s 9,834 rules on everything and got away with this:

Elijah also used his many talents to then do this

And he left Elena in the cave, alone! Don’t mess with the King, Elena.

Elsewhere, Damon was trying to make plans with Alaric but Alaric was too busy day drinking with ugh!Meredith. She somehow came to the conclusion that vampires must be stabbing people and then compelling people to forget?
Also, Klaus and Kol showed up to have some drinks and overheard Meredith’s poor reasoning. I like how Klaus got defensive and assumed Meredith was talking about him and his fam, because there aren’t 301 more vampires in Mystic Falls that could also be the perp?

Also, didn’t JoMo say he never wanted to see Klaus chillin’ at The Grill? I guess there was really no choice since there were no other bars in town.

Esther met up with Bonnie and Abby to discuss her using all of the Bennett powers. They were cool with it.

Back at the cave a guest arrived

Again, Elena did literally stab Rebekah in the back and still had yet to apologize for it.

Back at Stamon mansion Elijah had invited himself in to force Stamon to help stop his mother

One more flash to the cave (this episode had a lot of back and forth scenes), Rebekah pointed out how obnoxious it was that everyone constantly was trying to save Elena

Another Stamon scene took place in which Stefan contemplated bunnies or human blood, Damon was on to him though. His new idea to help Elijah: dagger an original, so if one dropped, they would all drop and it would screw up Esther’s plan. It wasn’t a terrible idea as far as daggering was concerned (that’s the last time I’ll ever be okay with daggers and their placement in the originals).

Damon enlisted Alaric, Meredith, and Caroline to help with the plan

Also, can I take time out to point out an observation? THE CW: PROMOTING UNDERAGE DRINKING 1 VAMPIRE AT A TIME. Seriously, does no one get carded in this town? Even the humans (ahem, Elena, sippin’ that champagne at the fancy ball) who are underage seem to constantly get away with drinking. The Grill needs to hire a new bouncer and bartenders…but, I know that’s asking a lot. I digress…

Caroline helped lure Klaus outside since he could not be daggered. I’m not sure if she was actually starting to like him or if it was just an act

I have to digress for one more moment because something else has been on my mind. Isn’t Klaus’ ability to sire out of his control? It was purely accident that Tyler and all the other hybrids became sired to Klaus and Klaus just went (happily) along with it. I don’t think Klaus has any control of un-siring Tyler either…I don’t know, I’m not sure on all these rules.

Over at witch mansion, Esther was gearing up to complete her spell to kill her children. I like how Bonnie didn’t probe Esther for any details on the spell until right before they were about to do some magic

Poor Finn. Still so confused about most things in life. I was rooting that he was going to be lying the whole time and come out with some awesome “SCREW YOU, MOM” trick.

At The Grill, Kol tried hitting on Meredith (didn’t he know she was a strumpet too!?)

Also, can we take a second to appreciate Nathaniel Buzolic’s face?

Anyway, getting back to the actual plot. Meredith blew off Kol’s advances and Alaric swooped in to deliver a dagger into Kol’s chest. Each Mikaelson child began to drop to the ground (except they didn’t show King Elijah?)

Guess what guys? That’s the 4th time Rebekah has died/been daggered! Watch out, Elijah…Rebekah is about to oust you with the most deaths.

Klaus couldn’t feel the ultimate effects of death-by-dagger, however, he could feel a tiny tingle in his heart? He still wasn’t aware of his family being linked as one but he knew something was wrong.

Klaus found Alaric, Damon, and Stefan trying to drag Kol away. He sucker punched them all, except for Damon and Damon tried to tell some “yo mamma” jokes. Elijah appeared and became too impatient (and probably mad that this was now technically the 5th time he had been “killed”) and threatened to have Rebekah kill Elena early if Damon didn’t find out where Esther and the others were.

In the cave, Rebekah woke up and played a nice little game of marco/polo with Elena until she found her. Elena ran into the vampire free zone of the cave.

Cut to Meredith’s apartment, Alaric was worried about Elena, but Meredith assured him Stamon would save her

In the car, Stamon had a quick convo on who would kill one of the Bennett witches. They flipped a coin (idk why they didn’t play rock/paper/scissor) to see who would do the deed.

For the 56th time, another flash to the cave. Rebekah showed up with some gas and matches. She proceeded to throw the gas into the vampire free zone where Elena was and began lighting the matches.

Elena then tried to tell Rebekah that Esther wasn’t trying to kill her because she hates her, she had no other way? (LOL, WRONG ELENA) She also still didn’t apologize for stabbing Rebekah in the back but did suggest that slow revenge would be a lot more fun!

Elsewhere, it seemed Elijah, Klaus, and Kol had been notified about where Esther’s ritual was going to be taking place. Good thing for them, they were early to the party.

Esther was clearly not happy to see her sons. She pretty much told them they were a curse on the earth and she had watched from the other side for 1,000 years as they killed and tortured people. She showed no mercy in her actions in trying to kill them.

In witch mansion, Bonnie and Abby hid out from the originals but were disrupted by Stefan and Damon. Stefan told Bonnie about Elena getting kidnapped and how she would die if they didn’t stop Esther.

Damon then fed Abby his blood and snapped her neck to turn her into a vampire. It was clever because Esther was channeling the Bennett witches dead or alive so turning Abby into a vampire would sever the line completely. The jury’s still out on if anyone cared about Abby being turned.

And just like that, the witches abandoned Esther and the ritual! Finn grabbed Esther and disappeared, leaving the rest of the boys confused.

I really hope this isn’t the end of Esther and the ritual to turn her kids human (wouldn’t that be a great season ending cliffhanger?). The payoff in this episode was so anticlimactic for usual TVD. Aren’t the original children technically still all bound as one?

Thankfully for the last time, in the cave, Rebekah let Elena know she was free to go

Elena tried to go over to Caroline’s and be there for Bonnie but awesomeness occurred instead

Bonnie did not want to see Elena. She was hurt but finally took the hint from Caroline and left.

At the Salvatore house, it was revealed that Stefan had “won” the coin toss to turn Abby and Damon took the reigns instead. I guess it was Damon’s way of giving Stefan the go ahead to try and win Elena back? He did call Stefan out for his lack of blood drinking though

Seriously though. If becoming a vampire means whiskey tastes like candy then sign me up!

Finally back in her own home, Elena found a note from the flawless king himself, it read:

Me too, Elena, me too.

At Mikaelson mansion, Elijah told Rebekah he felt guilty about using her like a pawn. He also admitted that their mother was right on some level about him being a monster and that just because Esther made them vampires didn’t mean they had to be monsters as well (Esther technically did make them monsters but I’ll let my king sulk).

I like to think that before Elijah came to Mystic Falls he was living in an immaculate penthouse apartment on the Upper East Side of NYC. He decided he needed to go review his life for a few (I HOPE NOT MANY) episodes there before he came back more flawless than ever.

Klaus was busy burning all his “I LOVE CAROLINE” drawings and sulking because Kol and Elijah had both left (UGH, WTF, HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO GET THROUGH TVD WITHOUT THOSE FACES?) when Rebekah wandered in to show him the videos of Elena being tortured. But, more importantly she had discovered on the walls of the cave a native calendar that depicted a new White Oak tree.

I’m confused because I thought if there was a new White Oak it would be chillin’ smack dab in the middle of Mystic Falls, but apparently not?

In Meredith’s apartment, Alaric was searching for the whiskey when he came across all the evidence from the Founder’s Council murders, including the weapons used. But oops, look who found him

There you have it! A pretty anticlimactic episode with an even bigger anticlimactic cliffhanger. We know Alaric isn’t dead. My guess is Meredith is being compelled so if Alaric was fatally shot he will be coming back to life soon. And with that we have another hellatus, see ya in 4 weeks!

ABOUT THE RECAPPER

AWSHUCKS (sometimes known as Erin, or her Hebrew name, Esther, so watch out) is a kindergartener at Mystic Falls Elementary School. In her free time she enjoys writing on cave walls with chalk, taking quiet walks in the MF woods, and attending 10 and younger night at the Mystic Grill, where she is also a bouncer and bartender on the weekends.

3×14 “Dangerous Liaisons”

3×14 picks up on the same night that 3×13 left off. Elena and Matt are chillin’ at MF Hospital. To make things easier for the writers of TVD and their cast of many (awesome) characters we are nicely told that 1. Alaric is going to be chillin’ in the hospital for a few days (I guess his ring is still at 90%) and 2. Bonnie and Abby are okay (aka, they were still passed out in cave). People are upset over Bonnie not being at the ball later on but LBR, she would not have gone even if she was invited.

Elena apologized for dragging him into everything but Matt subtly pointed out that he has the better end of things, saying he doesn’t really have much to worry about as opposed to everyone else in town. Go Matt.

Elena showed off her driving skills she learned at Mystic Falls Driving School (apparently it was just as well attended as Mystic Falls High School) and guess who showed up?

Elena did literally stab Rebekah in the back. Rebekah put her trust in Elena and she pulled a Katherine (something tells me it isn’t the last time…)

King Elijah showed up to save the day!

(Fair warning: I will be ranting about this later)

Cut to the next day at the Saltzbert residence: Stelamon discussing Elena’s nice night out with Elijah (why didn’t they show this instead?) A sudden knock at the door brings this

The Original family is throwing a fancy ball!

History lesson brought to you by Google: Let me clarify for some people that Mikaelson would have been an accurate last name for the Original siblings…kind of. Vikings often took the name of their fathers and added ‘son’ or ‘dottir’ to the end to infer they were the ‘son of’ or ‘daughter of.’ There go my theories that I would be playing spin the dreidel with the Originals…

Back at Mikaelson Mansion

Kol is new so I forgive him for not understanding that this isn’t HBO. The CW hates gay characters so I’m not sure why he would think they would love incestuous ones?

Isn’t he the best?

Unfortunately, Mommy showed up to break up the impending battle

Esther tried to get Klaus to see that it would take time for them to all be “AS ONE” (get what they were trying to do here? Grrr) and quickly changed conversations

Stelamon argued whether to go to the ball or not. Over at the Forbes residence someone else was about to get an invite

Michael Trevino was phoning his part in (he took tips from Kat Graham on that one). I would argue that TVD has way too many characters to handle at once but it may come back to bite me in the butt by Thursday.

A knock at the door brought Caroline’s invitation from…you guessed it, Klaus! And look what he sent

Caroline and Elena met at Red Lobster The Grill to discuss the fancy ball. Caroline called Elena out for not telling her about the Delena kiss and Rebekah showed up to invite Matt to the dance. I’m happy they didn’t spend 549 scenes leading up to the ball.

Damon AGAIN forgot about CW Rule #1: NO GAY CHARACTERS and decided that since Elijah shot down his advances he would give it a shot with his equally attractive brother

Kol wasn’t having it.

Side note: They were supposed to do an episode where Kol and Damon knew each other in flashbacks similar to Klefan and I’m SUPER UPSET they did not go this route.

Cheesy is the best way to describe Elena’s arrival. She decided that the best way to get in the Katherine mood would be the curl her hair.

After much lamenting (20 seconds worth) Caroline decided to attend the ball in the dress Klaus sent

Finn took the time to introduce himself and tell Elena that Esther wanted to talk, alone

It would have to wait until after the dance off

I like how Elijah referred to dancing as some old tradition within his family. Did they regularly hold dances with the Vikings and werewolves in the town square 1,000 years ago?

Elena agreed to dance with Damon and Stefan seemed kind of hurt…

Stelena snuck away for a quick chat. Stelena fans everywhere swooned and made Tumblr gifs.

Rebekah enlisted Kol to help her kill Matt in order to make Elena suffer

Like others, I was upset to learn Kol and Rebekah were not twins (AND I’M NOT TALKING GAME OF THRONES STYLE). It would have been a cute detail.

Elena had Stefan break Damon’s neck so he wouldn’t interfere with her meeting with Esther.

Esther explained to Elena that before she died her body was preserved by the Original Bennett. The other side had better coffee but she decided it was time to come back to be with her family.

In an effort to connect with Caroline, Klaus told her a story about horses and how Mikael killed his favorite one.

Do you not love Caroline and her “no1curr” attitude towards Klaus? I know people are either in love with Klaroline or vomit at the thought of them but their scenes together are the best of the episode. The way Caroline shuts Klaus down and tells it like it is to him is awesome and I can’t wait to see more.

Esther explained to Elena she had plans to perform a ritual that would link her children “as one” so if one of them died, they all would die. She needed a drop of Elena’s blood to begin so she could put it in the champagne her children were drinking.

And Elena went along with it! Now I’m going to have more on this later but what angers me more then anything else is Elena’s willingness to trust Esther. The only thing Elena knows about Esther is that she tried to have her murdered from the other side (which she still didn’t apologize for!). Elena also didn’t choose to ask questions. How would she know if this ritual was going to take out just the Mikaelson children or all vampires? How about if it was going to take her out as well? Esther is 100% ready to take her children out, she lied to her children’s faces, how is she not lying to Elena who she has no emotional attachment to?

Kol and Rebekah chatted and Damon recovered from his broken neck. Stefan called Damon out for being too much like season 1!Stefan.

Outside, Rebekah was having 2nd thoughts on killing Matt. He was nice to her and she genuinely was starting to like him.

And there it was. Elena’s Katherine like betrayal of Elijah.

I touched on this before with Elena’s willingness to trust Esther but this is the 2nd thing that annoyed me. Elena straight up stabbed Elijah in the back. I get people’s arguments that she’s trying to destroy Klaus and the Mikaelson family has provided nothing but pain and that Elijah did betray her too in season 2. Elena and Elijah betrayed each other! Elena daggered him and he saved Klaus. But, Elijah found a way to save Elena (it was Damon that screwed that up). Elijah saved Klaus to save his family and without him there would be no Damon! Elena and Elijah came to an understanding, a friendship was built between the two after they both betrayed each other and this is how she repays him! I guess he shouldn’t have put trust into her but the reason Elijah likes Elena is because SHE’S NOT KATHERINE!

This ties into Elena trusting Esther over Elijah! Elijah saved Elena’s life and Esther tried to kill her and she chooses Esther because she has a plan to kill Klaus, which again, SHE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT. I know this sounds long and crazy, especially as an Elijah stan but it breaks my heart that Elena did this.

Since no one actually attends Mystic Falls High School it was easy to see why no one noticed Klaus chillin’ in their Arts classes.

Also, this is another great scene. Caroline told Klaus off and accused him of not properly being able to connect with anyone. Caroline – 952, Klaus – 0.

Meanwhile, Kol confronted Rebekah and she called off the plans to kill Matt. Kol was not happy Rebekah had feelings.

Oh, and Elena still had some Katherine left over in her

Kol took the time to lovingly introduce himself to Matt and to break his hand, but was rudely interrupted by someone looking to flirt

Damon threw Kol off the balcony and snapped his neck. A lot of people have posed the question: how could Damon over power an Original? I asked that myself. Maybe Kol wasn’t as strong since he was snoozing for 100 years just 1 day ago?

Also, Stelena seemed more pressed about the neck snapping then any of the Original family. I think they wanted to thank Damon; Kol was kind of a jerk.

Caroline tried getting a hold of Tyler once again (Michael Trevino was only obligated to one phone in part that episode). She found another gift waiting for her from Klaus. I’m going to refer you guys over to Price Peterson’s recap because I laughed so hard I cried at his take on the scene.

Esther took time to compliment her son on his flawlessness, even though she was still planning on killing him. And yes, there is only a 5 year age difference between Daniel Gillies and the woman playing his mother.

Ugh, Finn, I had such high hopes for you. It turned out Finn was ready to martyr himself and take the rest of his siblings with him. Like father like son…sort of.

After realizing how flawless Elijah was, Esther seemed kind of conflicted. Only for a second though because she continued on with her ritual to bind her kids together.

This was actually kind of cool. Finn’s blood created a tree like pattern connecting all the names of the Mikaelson kids. Poor Heinrick and Aaron were missing out (RIP, BBs). I’m also hoping the spell accidentally binded them all with Finn from Glee instead of their brother Finn, I wouldn’t be sad to see him go.

Another Stelena Tumblr worthy scene took place. Elena was starting to feel somewhat remorseful for signing the Original siblings’ death certificates but Stefan made sure to steer her away from those feelings.

Back at The Grill

Burn! Matt was on point this episode. Don’t worry, someone else was there to comfort Rebekah…

Mmm, the taste of regret.

Hope you liked it! This episode was much better than last weeks, IMO. I just do not like what they are trying to do to my Elijah and his flawless family…Esther truly is a bigger villain than Klaus.

3×13 “Bringing Out the Dead”

Hey guys, I’ve been wanting to take a stab at this for a while. Following in the footsteps of my photorecap hero, Price Peterson. This is the 1st time I have done anything like this, so please be gentle!!

TVD wasted no time and got back to right where 3×12 left off. Elijah pondered who undaggered him, because clearly Klaus was having too much fun trolling Stefan to do so himself. Klaus immediately tried to force alcohol upon Elijah and get him to have a sit down (because in Klaus’s mind, daggering his family was the LOVING thing to do) but the King was like…

“LOL NOT ENOUGH ALCOHOL IN THE WORLD RN.” Of course Klaus only cared about the décor of his new dimly lit mansion and retaliated quickly.

Klaus had moves of his own…too bad he used them on Daniel Gillies’s stunt double and not Elijah.

All their blurry fighting led to this awesome moment:

Hi Cutie! Prince Kol was getting his, and I mean this literally, beauty rest.

Klaus threatened to re-dagger Elijah but once he mentioned Kol being awake Klaus was like “uh, NVM” and immediately let up on Elijah.

Kol didn’t hold hands around a grave with Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah and swear to be there “always and forever,” so back the dagger went. Goodnight for now, sweet Prince.

Oh, and also this happened:

Klaus should really find a better tattoo artist.

Down the road, Alaric was searching for the aspirin. He drinks daily, so I’m not sure if this was to make awkward small talk with Elena or he just keeps forgetting? Also, I’m confused as to who’s playing Alaric these days, Matt Davis or a bottle of whiskey? It’s up for debate.

Then, Sheriff Forbes stopped by. Since she was the only police officer in town she decided to come to one of the most rationale people for help, Elena. Turns out the murder weapon used on Meredith’s ex had Elena’s fingerprints on it…

Instead of bringing up the most obvious guess, Katherine, Elena quickly blamed Meredith. Listen, I don’t like Meredith either but…COME ON NOW.

An unimportant phone call with Damon (except Elena calling Alarics love life tragic, LOL ELENA) led to this gem of a meeting:

Now, I’m confused. Did Damon’s love note specifically state when and where to meet him? Did Elijah finally invest in a cell phone? Or is the best way to get a hold of him still Craigslist? I’m going with Craigslist.

Also, this scene really served no purpose. It was cut way too short and didn’t really establish anything. The King is in it so I’m not complaining.

I can’t even with the next scene. Stefan forced Bonnie and Abby into the cave then was like “GET TO WORK. BYE.” I’m going to let you all draw your own conclusions on that scene.

Never change jerk!Stefan, never change.

Another scene in which nothing interesting happened. Meredith is just ugh, the only redeeming thing to this scene was Caroline.

Then Caroline’s heartbreaking story arc of the episode began:

Because Meredith is the only M.D. in Mystic Falls and she only uses vampire blood to save her patients, the most unsuspecting place for a murder would be the medical supply closet.

Bill died with vamp blood in his system, he was going to be okay…as the thing he hates most.

Abby attempted to decipher some cave drawings but Mystic Falls Daycare had to cut their arts program and was only providing chalk to its students.

I love jerk!Stefan but I DO NOT love hypocrite!Stefan. Stefan called Damon crazy for trusting Elijah, bringing up the time when Elijah saved Klaus to ultimately save his family. Hey, remember that time Stefan helped save Klaus to save Damon’s life? You should be bonding with Elijah Stefan, not starting a smear campaign against him.

Oh and Damon called Stefan a dick and blamed him for the Delena kiss, I’m starting to like Damon again.

Back at the hospital Bill told Caroline he was not going to drink blood to complete the transition into a vampire. I am going to refer to Price Peterson directly on this one, his rant is much better than anything I could try to spit out.

Moving back to the Saltzbert? Giltzman? Eleric? Residence:

Alaric was having a good ole’ time while two people in the background discussed the Founders Council murders some more.

Elijah kindly invited Stamon into his home. I’m actually confused about this one. If Klaus owns the house, how did Elijah invite them in? And when Elijah woke up shouldn’t he have been thrown out of the house like at the Salvatores? Wait, does this rule not apply if vampires own the house? Sorry if I’m completely missing something here. No one owns the Salvatore house anymore so it’s fair game, but Klaus would be more cautious, right? Anyways, Klaus tempted his guests with some Kentucky Fried Chicken and some…apples?

Damon once again forgot about The CW’s rules on gay characters and flirted with Elijah. I welcomed it, but apparently Elijah was still conflicted on whether to help Damon or stand by his brother’s side. Either way, his face was priceless.

In an effort to make the dinner as awkward as possible, Stefan brought up Rebekah and the death of their mother.

Klaus was not amused but apparently had already come clean to Elijah about his murdering ways…probably at the salon while Elijah was getting his hair did, so he couldn’t really hear him over the blow dryer. Elijah kept his composure but you could tell he was about to start undag- we’ll get to that soon enough.

And once again, score 1 for Damon this episode. He called Stefan out for being a hypocrite.

Caroline’s argument wasn’t completely wrong. If it’s not Katherine committing the council murders, it is possible Klaus used his sire bond to Tyler to have him kill. I think Elena is just trying to cockblock Alaric now.

Besides that conversation this scene was pretty heartbreaking. I give a million points to Candice Accola, she does great on this show.

Matt showed up. He’s a good guy! His only use is to be the only human teenager (right now) but I don’t hate him when I don’t think about the drowning scene from “The Reckoning”…

Elijah was not amused, almost like he was about to go undag- WE’LL GET TO THAT.

In TVD tradition we were TOLD and not SHOWN (did I learn nothing from “Ordinary People”?) about the Original Petrova. Her name was NOT Charlotte, it was Tatia. Klaus and Elijah loved and fought over her. Esther fed them her blood. Parallels were drawn.

Across the table, 2 other brothers did not feel the same way.

Back in the cave Bonnie and Abby had an emotional moment. Apparently 1 minute of mother/daughter emotion conjures up 15+ years of magic? MOM, WHERE ARE YOU? I’M FEELING MAGICAL!

The magic worked! Bonnie went to find cell reception (didn’t someone install WiFi in that cave by now?), leaving Abby alone. And then BAM! The coffin opened. I WONDER WHO/WHAT WAS IN THERE!? IT’S A TOTAL 100% SHOCKER THAT WASN’T SPOILED BY ANY LEAKED PROMOS BY THE CW, THAT’S FOR SURE!

No caption needed.

Back at Klaus mansion it was time to negotiate a deal. Klaus actually said some reasonable things about Elena being better off without Stamon.

Damon wasn’t having it; he decided to take a fiver.

Elijah suspiciously followed. I like to imagine they were hugging, shirtless. But, what they actually did is the next best thing.

Elena and Matt returned to the Saltzbert house to find it in shambles. Instead of calling the cops Sheriff Forbes, they did their own investimagating.

NOW it was a typical Thursday!

They found Alaric, stabbed, just like the other council members. I add this one in here because I’m pretty sure that is what Matt Davis wishes would happen. Damon was not readily available so Elena killed him instead with her dopplelicious ways so that he would come back to life with his fully functional ring. See you soon, Ric!

Klaus attempted to make a deal with Stamon but jerk!Stefan was not having it. Klaus broke his leg and forced his hand into a fire. Elijah kept Damon from helping Stefan but I’m pretty sure it was just an excuse to put his hands on Damon.

Apparently Ian was taking a break from eye acting and taking a stab at nose acting. Not a fan. Damon told Klaus he would go retrieve the last coffin and Elijah followed. LOL WERE THEY TROLLIN’.

The next scene is actually kind of hard to watch, I’m not going to lie. It was the final moments between Caroline and Bill and even thought Bill’s character was horribly written and handled it was still sob worthy. Was his character meant to be ironic?

AND THEN THE BEST SCENE OF THE ENTIRE EPISODE TOOK PLACE. ELIJAH? ONE MILLION FOR YOU ELIJAH, YOU GO ELIJAH!

Elijah finally took all his anger out and UNDAGGERED HIS FLAWLESS FAMILY. PS: Apparently the longer you’ve been daggered, the less time it takes you to wake up?

This is something no one will have a hard time arguing: The Vampire Diaries casting office did one of the best jobs and casted Nathaniel Buzolic. Claps and praises to you TVD, my body is ready.

Also, a lot of people keep saying that they don’t understand how Kol is in modern day clothing. If you look closely enough, he isn’t. He’s dressed in early 1900s garb. Kol was a Newsie. He enjoyed life selling papes, singing, dancing…and then Klaus came and daggered him. No wonder Klaus is frightened of him, he daggered him right before Carrying the Banner.

Something tells me Klaus and Kol are going to partake in a battle of the ‘K’ names.

Before we had anytime to appreciate Kol’s beautiful face we were quickly introduced to daggered bro #2, Finn! Poor boy has been asleep for 900 years; someone’s going to have to keep a close eye on him for a while.

I’m rallying for an entire episode where Finn walks around saying “WOTS THIS!?” to everything and runs away when he sees a moving car.

Let’s not forget about the flawless princess!

Elijah was a giddy school boy. He had been playing this line in his head for the past 1,000 years and it was executed flawlessly.

Cut back to the other storylines. Bill passed away and Elena and Matt shared a hug. Damon and Stefan went to go check on Bonnie and Abby. I was going to recap that scene but basically all that happened was:

Stefan: I am going to stop being a jerk.
Damon: ….
Stefan: ELENA. IS. MINE.
Damon: 1864 was a good year, how about a repeat?

Yes, so after everything Klaus said both brothers confessed their love for Elena. They didn’t dwell on it too much because they remembered quickly that Bonnie and Abby still exist.

Alaric woke up! He was very upset he wasn’t a vampire. I’m not an advocate for Alaric’s alcoholism but the bottle of whiskey should have been the 1st thing Alaric saw, not Elena and Matt.

One more flash to the cave

AND THE COFFIN WAS EMPTY! SUCK IT, PRICE PETERSON! I WAS RIGHT. There was nothing in there! No snickers, no doppelganger, no dead mo- damn it.

Abby and Bonnie were getting some quick ZzzZz’s thanks to a certain someone…

Back at the MIKAELSON household (very upset their last name is not ‘Original’) the family was keeping a close eye on Klaus to make sure he did not throw another hissy fit.

There’s also a reason Finn is starring off screen. What isn’t shown is a computer with the flying toaster screensaver about 5 feet away. Finn was intently planning the destruction of this object and what the best way to use a surprise sneak attack would be incase of computer retaliation…

The family was plotting their escape from Klaus and their next round of the game Clue…but…

THE BIGGEST SHOCKER OF THE EPISODE, I’M SRS.

Klaus realized he was defeated. I guess he wanted his brothers and sister to believe their mother was dead as opposed to getting some light ZzzZ’s. He knew that they would open the coffin themselves if they knew she was still kicking and she holds the key to Klaus’s destruction.

How anti-climatic! I wanted more family fights, more Finn and Kol time, more Esther rage! I guess she’s forging Klaus’s trust so she can destroy him from the inside.

Also, we are now all well aware of the Mikaelson family. Half their names are Hebrew and half their names are Nordic. It is all very confusing. I hope this issue gets resolved soon because I need to know which card to send out during the holidays:

So there we have it! I hope you enjoyed it! It took me a long time but I had fun making it (and a good way to kill a Saturday afternoon). Remember, all views/opinions/theories are my own so I’m not trying to offend/start a fight with anyone!
